About

Visiting my old university in Wales, 2021

Welcome to my blog.

We wear many hats in life and you may be visiting for a range of reasons. Maybe we have met via my professional work with educational technology. Maybe you’re a friend from my past and are simply curious. Of course, it’s also entirely possible that we have never met and you have found yourself here serendipitously.

Whatever the reason, I’d like to say a little bit about what I use this blog for. Hopefully, this will help you decide whether it’s right for you and what you can expect.

First of all, the title. I’ve called this blog “Scott’s Unfinished Pictures” because I like to blog about my developing art and photography. I use the term “unfinished” because it’s open to debate if anything is truly finished. Many creatives live with a constant sense of dissatisfaction with their work. There’s always something more you can do to improve your work (if you’ve ever edited your photos in Lightroom or Photoshop you’ll be able to relate to this – it’s a time sink). Pictures also need someone to view them and apply meaning. I love getting feedback on my work because it often gives me fresh perspectives and ideas for new work. And so the cycle continues.

What else do I use this blog for? Many years ago I studied Classics and Philosophy in Wales, so although I have a passion for art and photography I also enjoy going back in time to explore the ruins of ancient Greece and Rome. I’m also a runner and although I don’t get out there as much as I did in my youth, it’s still something I very much enjoy. Some posts will touch on these areas too.

Occasionally, I will also post work-related posts about educational technology, but they mainly feature on the Jisc Inspiring Learning blog and elsewhere too. After university I started my career as a librarian and later moved into teaching on a variety of education and IT related subject areas. Fast forward a few years and I moved into Jisc, initially as part of the Regional Support Centres before then moving into the Subject Specialist team focussing on digital pedagogy. My main interests include areas such as digital photography, writing in digital contexts, and social media to bring communities together.

If you want to get in touch or see the kinds of things I’m currently interested in you can catch up with me on Twitter or the new kid on the block Bluesky.
