Tips for sketching #2

My second tip isn’t really about how to hone your sketching skills, it’s more about finding the time to practice. We all lead busy lives and it’s easy to get caught up in life’s everyday challenges. Finding the time to sketch isn’t easy.

About a year ago I started to address this by carrying my sketch book and pencils with me wherever I go. I spend a lot of time travelling and it’s surprising how many opportunities there are to sketch if you’re prepared.

I spent part of this week travelling to, and working in, London. Often these long train journeys can be quite humdrum. There’s also a lot of dead time spent in hotels.

Seize these moments! It’s amazing how quickly a two hour train journey flies by when you’re absorbed in a good sketch.

Here’s a sketch I did this week whilst travelling.

Oh, one more tip, take an eraser too. Train journeys can be bumpy affairs!
