Continue readingOne of my favourite things about holidays is the opportunity to focus on wellbeing. A couple of weeks away gives you plenty of time to stop and take stock.

Continue readingI couldn’t really visit Cyprus and not include a photo of my favourite place to visit on the island – the sanctuary of Aphrodite at Kouklia.

Such a tranquil place to explore with great views from one of the oldest shrines to Aphrodite in the world.
I wasn’t the only one exploring the ruins of Cyprus today.
Every year, I make an annual pilgrimage to Kourion to explore the ancient Roman ruins. If you’ve not been, it’s well worth a visit if you’re interested in pottering around ancient temples, a theatre (fully restored and still used for open-air musical and theatrical performances), Roman baths and many other architectural wonders.
The butterflies were also exploring the ruins with me. I managed to capture this Swallowtail, which are quite common throughout the island.

The original plan was to take some shots of birds, because I’d taken my telephoto lens with me, but serendipitous moments often arise when you’re out with the camera. You just have to seize the opportunities as they happen.
I thought it’d make a great shot if I captured the two cats play-fighting with the sunset as a backdrop. As you can see from the photograph, though, they were far too intrigued by what I was doing with the camera to play ball and give me a good shot.
Cats – a law unto themselves …

I know, that’s two sunsets on the bounce I’ve posted. The sky was on fire this evening though. I couldn’t resist …
What photographer can resist a decent sunset shot over the Med?

One of my favourite birds 🙂
Fun fact about Robins – they’re very territorial and loyal to their food sources. The Robin you see in your garden is probably the same one each time.
Understand that drawing is as much a mental activity as a mechanical one.

There’s always a sweet spot between thinking about something and doing something. That sweet spot will vary from person to person, too. Rushing in too early can lead to mistakes. Whereas overthinking can paralyse you.
A bit of spontaneity in what you do can make it more fun, after all.
