Gaia provides a new heart for Sheffield’s Park Hill

It’s wonderful to see such a beautiful piece of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show find a permanent home right here in my home city of Sheffield.

The award-winning “On the Edge” garden, designed by Sarah Eberle MBE for the Campaign to Protect Rural England, won Gold and Garden of the Year at Chelsea 2026. Now, its incredible centrepiece, a huge wooden sculpture of Gaia, the Greek Earth goddess, contrasts beautifully against the brutalist architecture of Sheffield’s iconic Park Hill flats.

The Lambda and the Line: Shields, Symbols, and Solidarity in Sparta
